    Research-peptide quality varies more than any other laboratory reagent category. What a careful researcher should ask before placing a first order — plus the red flags that separate a real supplier from a repackager.

    Why supplier choice matters

    Two vials labeled "BPC-157, 10 mg" from different suppliers can differ in purity by five to fifteen percent, be at different net peptide contents, and carry different counterions. In an in-vitro assay that variation is the difference between a clean dose response and noise. In storage, a poorly synthesized peptide can degrade months before its listed shelf life. The COA is the only artifact that ties a specific vial to a testable claim — everything else on a storefront is marketing.

    Green flags

      The Certificate of Analysis lists the same lot number printed on the vial and is not generic marketing collateral.
    • HPLC + MS reported together
      Purity ≥98% by HPLC area plus a mass-spec spectrum confirming the observed mass matches the theoretical mass within ~1 Da.
    • Independent third-party lab
      The testing lab is named, not the supplier itself. Chromatograms and MS reports are shareable PDFs.
    • Named counterion & net peptide content
      TFA or acetate salt is disclosed, and the COA reports net peptide content, not just total vial mass.
    • US-based fulfillment, real address
      A physical US address, working support email, and typical 1–3 business-day US ship times.

    Red flags

    • Generic COA that never changes lot to lot
      Same PDF filename, same date, same peak positions on every order — a template, not a real batch report.
    • HPLC purity claimed without a chromatogram
      A number without a spectrum. If you can't see the trace, you can't verify the number.
    • No mass-spec confirmation
      HPLC without MS doesn't prove identity — only that a compound is pure. Legitimate COAs report both.
    • Therapeutic or dosing language on the page
      Any human-dosing chart, 'stack', or clinical claim on a research-peptide storefront is a compliance red flag.
    • Offshore-only fulfillment, vague origin
      'Ships from EU/Asia warehouse' with no US address, or 'private courier' with no tracking is a supply-chain and customs risk.
    • Pressure marketing on 'medical grade' claims
      Synthetic research peptides are not USP or GMP drugs. 'Pharmaceutical grade' branding on RUO products is misleading.
    • No batch numbers on the vial
      If you can't trace the physical vial back to a specific COA lot, the COA is meaningless.
    • Suspiciously cheap versus the market
      Peptide synthesis has a real cost floor. Prices dramatically below the market usually mean under-fill, low purity, or both.
